RICHMOND, Va. – After posting outstanding performances in the William & Mary football team's 34-31 win at Elon on Saturday, freshman quarterback

Will Whitehurst earned weekly honors from the Colonial Athletic Association. Wilson was selected as the league's offensive player of the week, while Whitehurst was chosen as the special teams player of the week.
Wilson, a true freshman who made his third career start, accounted for 293 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in the conference-opening road win. The Bronx, N.Y., native completed 14 of 20 passes for a career-high 198 yards with two touchdowns. Additionally, he led the Tribe on the ground and rushed for a team-best 95 yards on 13 carries, highlighted by a 47-yard touchdown scamper.
One of the CAA's top quarterbacks this season, Wilson ranks second in the conference and 19th nationally in completion percentage (65.1). Additionally, he ranks 7th in the league in total offense (196.3) and eighth in rushing (61.0).
Wilson becomes the first true freshman to earn CAA Offensive Player of the Week accolades since Elon's Jaylan Thomas garnered the award in 2018.
Whitehurst continued his outstanding season in the victory at Elon, as he averaged 46.7 yards on this three punts. In addition to posting a season-long 52-yard punt in the second quarter, he pinned Elon at its own 8-yard line in the final seconds to help secure the win.
Whitehurst currently leads the CAA in punting average (45.1), while his averaged would rank 14th nationally but currently does not qualify due to the 3.6 punts/game minimum.
After an open date this weekend, W&M will look to extend its winning streak to four games when it hosts UAlbany for Homecoming at Zable Stadium on Oct. 9.
