Men's Soccer Wraps Up Homestand vs. #17 Virginia Tech

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer wraps up its season-opening four-match homestand by welcoming No. 17 Virginia Tech to Martin Family Stadium on Tuesday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
 
Tuesday's contest will be the Tribe's Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer® match. W&M is once again partnering with the Go 4 the Goal Foundation to raise money for pediatric cancer research. During the spring, the Tribe raised over $3,000 for the Go 4 the Goal Foundation. As part of the match with the Hokies, the Tribe will be Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer by wearing gold shoelaces in support.
 
All Tribe home matches will be streamed on FloFC. Things to Know

- With its 1-0 win over George Washington last Tuesday, the Tribe started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2010. The Green and Gold started 3-0 in 2010 on the way to a 15-4-3 mark, a CAA title and a spot in the NCAA Round of 16. W&M dropped its CAA opener on Saturday, 2-1, to Northeastern.

- The Hokies are 3-1-2 and 1-1 in the ACC this season. VT is ranked No. 17 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll released last week. Earlier this season, Virginia Tech upset then-No. 1 and defending national champion Marshall, 3-2, and are coming off a 2-1 double OT win over rival Virginia.
 
- The Tribe leads the all-time series with Virginia Tech at 11-4-2, including a 7-1-2 mark in Williamsburg. The Hokies won the last meeting in Blacksburg, 4-0, in 2018, but the Tribe tallied a victory in the last contest in Williamsburg, 4-1, during the 2017 season.
 
- The Hokies are the first of three ACC foes for W&M this season. The Tribe also travels to Wake Forest (Oct. 5) and NC State (Oct. 19) later in the year. The Green and Gold owns six wins against the ACC in the last 11 years, including a pair of victories in 2017 (NC State and Virginia Tech). During head coach Chris Norris's tenure, the Tribe owns nine wins and four draws against Power 5 Conference opponents.
 
- Junior Alexander Levengood, an All-CAA First Team pick last season, has registered a point in all three games this season and scored a goal in each of the Tribe's last two contests. He leads the CAA and ranks 34th nationally in points per game (1.67). He has two goals and an assist this season, including the game-winning tally against George Washington.
 
- As a team, the Tribe ranks eighth nationally in shutout %, blanking two of its first three opponents. Sophomore goalkeeper Will Stack ranks third in the CAA and 32nd nationally in goals against average (0.67), while ranking 35th in the country in save % (.833).
 
- Junior Diba Nwegbo recorded a point in each of the first two matches. He tallied a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over St. Francis (PA), before assisting on the game-winner vs. GW. Nwegbo ranks third in the CAA and 24th nationally in assists per game (0.67). He also earned the Tribe's PK in the CAA opener with Northeastern.
  
- As a team, the Tribe has placed 20 of their 33 shots on goal through the opening three games. W&M leads the CAA and ranks third nationally in shot accuracy at 60.6%.
 
- Both Levengood and Stack were ranked among the top 20 players in the CAA according to Top Drawer Soccer. Levengood came in ninth, while Stack was one of two goalkeepers on the list and was No. 19.
