EARLYSVILLE, Va. – Sophomore
Kyra Holland placed in the top 10 and William & Mary women's cross country finished fifth at the Virginia Invitational on Friday evening at Panorama Farms.
Holland ran the 5K course in 18 minutes flat to take ninth place. She was ninth after covering the first 2K in 6:54.6 and improved to sixth at the 4.1K mark, before settling into the top 10 at the finish.
In total, the Tribe placed three among the top 40. Freshman
Lucy Young was the second Tribe runner to cross the line at 18:51.7 in 30th place. Sophomore
Emily Sell finished in 40th place at 19:15.8, and freshman
Annika Griggs came in 43rd at 19:18.2.
Sophomore
Molly Coyle rounded out the Tribe scorers in 56th at 20:06.2. A trio of sophomores rounded out the W&M harriers at the event with
Olivia Haller (20:17.4),
Emily Morris (20:22.9) and
Anna Cestari (20:43.1) coming in 63rd, 65th and 69th respectively.
The host Cavaliers won the event with a team score of 17 followed by Navy (48), East Carolina (103) and High Point (109). The Tribe was fifth with a team score of 138 finishing ahead of Big Ten opponent Maryland (142), who was ranked No. 9 in Mid-Atlantic region.
W&M will have two weeks of training before it returns to action at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh, on Friday, Oct. 1.
