WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's cross country hits the road to compete in the Virginia Invitational on Friday at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. The 5k race is slated for a 5:15 p.m. start.
W&M will be one of nine teams competing in the event along with the host Cavaliers, East Carolina, High Point, Longwood, Marshall, Navy, Maryland and Norfolk State.
The Tribe will travel back to Panorama Farms later this season, competing in the XC23Invitational on Oct. 15.
News and Notes
- The Virginia Invitational includes three regionally-ranked teams in the host Cavaliers (No. 8 in the Southeast Region), Maryland No. 9 in the Mid-Atlantic) and Navy (No. 15 in the Mid-Atlantic).
- The Green and Gold opened the season by winning the William & Mary Invitational on Sept. 10. W&M posted a perfect score of 15 in outdistancing Hampton. The Tribe placed 10 runners among the top 11 at the event.
- Sophomore
Kyra Holland led the way, running the 5K course in a time of 19:01.37 to claim the top spot. She finished 24 seconds ahead of the field.
- Tribe freshmen finished second, third and fourth at the W&M Invite.
Arianna DeBoer was the runner-up at 19:25.69 followed by
Lucy Young in third (19:40.94) and
Annika Griggs (19:48.43).
- Sophomores
Emily Sell (fifth),
Molly Coyle (sixth),
Emily Morris (seventh),
Anna Cestari (eighth) and
Olivia Haller (10th) rounded out the Tribe harriers in the top 10 at the season-opening W&M Invite.
- At last spring's CAA Championship, sophomores
Kyra Holland tied the mark for the highest finish for a Tribe freshman at the conference championship meet, placing third. She earned All-CAA honors for her efforts.
- During the spring, the Tribe finished fourth at the CAA Championships. W&M owns 23 CAA titles all-time with the last coming in 2018.
