WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – William & Mary baseball returns to the diamond Tuesday evening for the final leg of a four-game road trip. The Tribe will meet Duke in Durham for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch. The contest is the final mid-week and final non-conference game scheduled for William & Mary this season.
The Green and Gold will be looking to rebound after dropping two of three to UNCW last weekend. The Tribe took a 5-3 win over the Seahawks Friday, but fell in the final two games of the series to even their conference record at 9-9.
Duke split four games last weekend beginning with a 7-0 win over Liberty in Lynchburg last Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Devils were then bested two games to one in a three-game set against UVA in Charlottesville over the weekend. On the year, Duke is 18-18 with a strong 12-7 home mark.
Tuesday will mark just the fourth meeting between the Tribe and the Blue Devils. Duke leads the all-time series 2-1 and has won both games in Durham including last year's 5-0 win.
Jacob Haney struck out four over 4.0 innings of work and
Matt Howat did not allow a hit in 2.0 innings of relief out of the pen in last season's contest.
Offensively, the Tribe has seen extra base hits from a wide range of players this season.
Matt McDermott is third in the CAA with 10 doubles. The shortstop leads the Tribe with 15 extra base hits and has 58 total bases to go with a pair of triples and three homers.
Matt Thomas ranks among the lead leaders with five home runs on the season and has tossed out seven doubles of his own.
Ben Williamson has eight doubles in his own right to go with a homer and triple while
Tyler Solomon is the third member of the tribe with multiple homers having hit a pair on the season.
The contest will be the final of just four midweek games for the Green and Gold this season. The Tribe previously had one off games with Old Dominion, VCU, and Virginia.
