The William & Mary women's swimming team advanced 14 women to finals at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Wednesday's final prelims session, with seven making the championship heat and two earning the top overall seed. In the preliminary scoring, James Madison continues to lead with 673 points, while W&M is second with 556 and Towson is third with 505 points.
200 Back
The 200 back started off with a bang, as five of the Tribe's qualifiers all made it back. Junior
Anna Kenna (Chantilly, Va.), fresh off winning the 100 back last night, swam a lifetime-best 1:59.08 to earn the top seed in tonight's championship final. That was the 13th-fastest race in school history, and ranks Kenna fourth all-time among Tribe athletes. She'll be joined in the top heat by her classmate
Ellie Henry (Southern Pines, N.C.), seventh overall in 2:01.69. Making the consolation finals were three Green and Gold swimmers. Sophomore
Kim Jogis (Larchmont, N.Y.) continued her strong week of swimming with a lifetime-best 2:03.66 for 10th overall, just ahead of senior
Tara Tiernan (West Hartford, Conn.) who was 11th in 2:03.82. Freshman
Kat Vanbourgondien (Virginia Beach, Va.) will make her second finals appearance, after touching the wall in 2:05.66 for 15th overall.
100 Free
In the 100 free, the Tribe's outstanding sprint pair of
Missy Cundiff (Leesburg, Va.) and
Katie Stevenson (Wilton, Conn.) both made the championship finals. Cundiff is the second seed after swimming a lifetime-best 49.93, an improvement of more than half a second to move up the all-time rankings to fourth in school history. Stevenson, meanwhile, was just off her best pace with a seventh-place showing 50.82 seconds, and will look to repeat her feat from yesterday of dropping significant time in the finals to move into title contention.
200 Breast
Sophomore
Annie Tuttle (Alexandria, Va.) has also been having a very good week, and kept that streak going with the top seed in the 200 breast finals. Tuttle swam a lifetime-best 2:15.92, improving more than 3.5 seconds over her previous best with the sixth-fastest race ever at W&M. Tuttle now ranks fifth in school history among athletes in the event. Senior
Megan Bull (Hillsborough, N.J.) also made the championship heat, swimming 2:18.93 for fifth overall. Sophomores
Peyton Proffitt (Richmond, Va.) and
Brooke Lamoureux (Virginia Beach, Va.) are both in the consolation finals, Proffitt 13th overall in 2:23.46 and Lamoureux swimming 2:25.91 for 16th place.
200 Fly
In the 200 fly, junior
Rebecca Rogers (Richmond, Va.) touched the wall in 2:04.56 to finish eighth in the prelims and earn a spot in the championship finals. Sophomore
Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) was 12th in 2:05.54, and will be joined in the consolation finals by senior
Madeline High (Raleigh, N.C.), who was 13th in 2:07.19.
The finals of all four events, as well as the 1,650 free and the 400 free relay, begins tonight at 7:25 p.m. live on CAA.TV. The Tribe has a pair of sophomores in the 1,650 free,
Elizabeth Intihar (Columbus, Ohio) and
Grace Tramack (Palo Alto, Calif.).
