Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – One hit was the difference in a pitching dual as UNCW's Noah Bridges hit a three-run homer off
Randy Prosperi in the top of the sixth to help the Seahawks to a 4-1 win at Plumeri Park Sunday afternoon. Tribe Starter
Ben Greenspon was rock solid, putting in 5.1 innings allowing three earned runs and striking out three.
Despite the loss, W&M had a productive weekend taking two out of three from conference preseason-favorite UNCW. Following the winning weekend the Tribe holds a 3-3 record in CAA play.
William & Mary threatened in the first inning as
Ben Williamson led off the game with a double down the left field line. The Tribe could not push Williamson across and UNCW got the scoring going in the top of the second inning taking advantage of three singles to score a run and take the 1-0 lead.
Greenspon and UNCW starter Ryan Calvert would settle in for four scoreless innings before the Seahaws extended their lead in the sixth to 4-0 as Bridges smacked his two-out homer over the right field wall.
Matt Howat would come in for the Tribe to limit further damage.
In the bottom half of the sixth,
David Hogarth led off with a single and moved to third on a hit from
Phil Conti. Hogarth came around to score on an error but the Tribe left the bases loaded, keeping the score 4-1.
Howat,
Will Moore,
Garrett Newsome, and
Justin Pearson would combine to toss one hit ball over the final 3.1 scoreless innings. Hunter Hodges picked up the save for UNCW tossing four hitless innings in relief of Calvert.
Next up for the Tribe is a three game set with VCU. The Green and Gold will head to Richmond for a doubleheader on Saturday and host the Rams at Plumeri Park for a single game Sunday afternoon.
