Men's Golf Surging at Bash at the Beach

The only thing that could slow the W&M men's golf team down in the second round at the Bash at the Beach Monday afternoon was Father Time, with play halting due to darkness with four holes left to play.  The Tribe, which was the last team to tee off on Monday morning stands in fifth overall at 1-under (575) in the 11-team field.  The top three teams all finished their two rounds, with Connecticut leading Jacksonville State by one stroke and host Appalachian State one stroke behind that.  Individually, Jesus Montenegro of Jacksonville State and Jared Nelson of UConn are tied for the lead at 6-under (210).

Live Results

W&M has four players all in the top-25, led by sophomore Jimmy Taylor (Alexandria, Va.) at 1-under (215) in a tie for 12th.  Taylor shot 72 in the first round, and is one-under through 14 holes in the second.  His classmate Trevor Binau (Columbus, Ohio) shot 76 (+4) in the morning, and is coming through strong in the second round at 4-under through 14 to stand tied for 18th overall at even-par for the tournament.  Grad student Preston Ball (Raleigh, N.C.) is also tied for 18th at even, shooting steady 72 in the morning and on pace to duplicate that in the afternoon, while junior Matthew Feinstein (McLean, Va.) is tied for 23rd at 1-over.  Feinstein was +2 in the morning, but is 1-under in the second round before the halting of play.  Freshman Matt Epstein (Hopkinton, Mass.) rounds out the lineup in a tie for 41st overall at 7-over.  Epstein's first collegiate round was an 80 (+8), but he made a massive improvement in the afternoon and is on-pace for a 1-under in the second round.

The Bash at the Beach will wrap up Tuesday, with teams teeing off at 8 a.m. to finish off the second round before moving on to the third and final loop.
