Men’s Golf Announces Spring Schedule

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William & Mary head men's golf coach Tim Pemberton announced the Tribe's six-event spring schedule. Highlighting the ledger, the Green and Gold will host the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, March 27-29, and graduate student Ethan Mangum will compete in the prestigious Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase presented by the TGR Foundation at The Riviera Country Club on February 14.

"We look forward to getting back out there in the spring," Pemberton said.  "We made some progress in the fall and played our way into contention in several events.  The fall provided us with some great learning experiences.  We have a challenging tournament schedule ahead in the spring.  The courses will test all facets of our game.  I'm hopeful we can continue to improve and build momentum as we head into the CAA Tournament."

The Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase is an opportunity for a collegiate golfer to play their way into the PGA TOUR's Genesis Invitational field. First held in 2015, the Collegiate Showcase will be contested for the eighth time in 2022. Mangum, who is the top-ranked player in the first APGA Collegiate Ranking of 2021-22, will compete at the event after leading W&M with a 73.71 stroke average over 14 rounds during the fall. He notched a pair of top-10 performances, including a runner-up finish at the Howard Bison Invitational.

The pro-am style Collegiate Showcase features a top PGA TOUR professional and a standout collegiate golfer paired with two amateurs competing in both a team and individual competition at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The top team of two amateurs earns a $50,000 donation to the school's golf program, and the low collegiate golfer will earn an exemption into that week's 2022 Genesis Invitational.

"We're thrilled for the chance to compete in the 2022 Collegiate Showcase and thankful to the TGR Foundation for providing us with this opportunity,"  Pemberton said.  "Ethan had an outstanding fall.  He's a model student-athlete and wonderful representative of our school.  He's excited for the trip to Riviera to test his game alongside some of college golf's best."

During the month of March, the Tribe will travel to a pair of tournaments in North Carolina's Sandhills Region. W&M competes in the Ross Collegiate Classic for the second-straight year at the classic, Donald Ross designed, Mid Pines Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C., March 7-8. Last season, Jimmy Taylor led the Tribe by earning a ninth-place finish.

The following week the Tribe returns to the Pinehurst area to compete in the Forest Creek Collegiate, March 12-13. The event, hosted by the University of Richmond, will be played at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst.

The Tribe hosts the 43rd Annual Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, March 27-29.  The spring tournament in Williamsburg has, in recent years, become one of the largest and most well-regarded events in the nation, and will return to the famed Gold Course at Colonial Williamsburg's Golden Horseshoe Golf Club for the sixth time and third-straight year. The classic Gold Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., in 1963 and renovated by his son, Rees Jones, in 2017.  The venue hosted the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship and is consistently ranked as a Top-100 Public Course in America.

In April, the Tribe travels north to Radnor Valley Country Club to make its first appearance in the Villanova Wildcat Invitational April 18-19.

The CAA Championships will be played for a second-straight season at the Dataw Island Club in Beaufort, S.C., April 24-26. Last season, W&M placed fourth at the CAA Championship, the team's highest finish in 2015. The CAA team champion and individual champion (if not a member of the winning team) will both earn an automatic selection to the NCAA regional round. The Tribe's last appearance in the NCAA tournament came in 2002, as that team earned an at-large bid.
