Maddie Meyers' Double-Double Leads Tribe To Five Set Win

WILMINGTON, N.C.- William & Mary outlasted UNCW in a five-set thriller Sunday afternoon in Wilmington. The win came in part to an outstanding performance from Maddie Meyers as the sophomore recorded her first career double-double with a match-high 15 kills and 12 digs.
 
UNCW took a marathon 26-24 opening set, but the Tribe would rally to take sets two and three by scores of 25-18 and 25-23. The Green and Gold were unable to put the Seahawks away as UNCW forced a deciding frame with a 25-17 set four win.
 
The teams traded leads throughout the fifth set before UNCW would take a 16-15 lead on the brink of victory. Meyers would even the score with her 15th kill of the afternoon and Kaitlyn Ferguson and Sabrina Malcolm would team up for a block to give the Tribe match point. Meyers would deliver a service ace to give the Tribe the 3-2 victory.
 
Ferguson was strong all afternoon producing a career-high 10 kills and would add four blocks. Julia Brown was outstanding once again hitting 12 kills on a .500 percentage. The senior had a season high seven blocks.
 
Amy Schwem continued her strong freshman season dishing out 46 assists over the afternoon to go with eight digs. Anna Porter led all players with 22 digs, while Lauren Merrill put up a season-high 14 digs with six kills. Malcolm dominated at the net with five digs to go with nine kills on a .320 percentage.
 
UP NEXT: The Tribe will be on the road next weekend visiting Delaware for the final two-match set of the regular season.
