Hofstra Upends Tribe In Three Sets

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.- William and Mary fell in three sets to Hofstra Saturday afternoon in Long Island. The Tribe saw Maddie Meyers have a team-high 11 kills and had a strong .320 hitting percentage. Amy Schwem had a solid outing delivering 34 assists and 11 digs for her third double-double this season.

The first three points of the match went to the Pride before the Tribe forced the first side out of the day. Hofstra would lead by six at 16-10 before the Tribe took a timeout and took the next three points cutting the lead in half. Hofstra pulled away to take the opening frame by a 25-22 count. Julia Brown got off to a hot start with five first set kills.

The second set saw the Tribe take an early lead. The two teams would be level at 22-22 before Hofstra took the final three points in a 25-22 second frame win. Despite losing the set, the Tribe hit .300 and had 17 kills in the frame led by six from Maddie Meyrs.

In the third, the Tribe trailed 13-12 but rattled off four straight points to take a 16-13 lead and prompt a Hofstra time out. However the Tribe would not be able to extend the match as Hofstra went on to win the third by a 25-21 score. Meyers rattled off four more kills in the final set to reach double digits for the third time this season.

Anne Louise Seekford was strong, contributing seven kills with a .429 hitting percentage to go with seven digs. Brown finished with nine kills, while Sabrina Malcolm and Lauren Merrill both recorded seven kills.

Schwem's 11 digs were the most by any Tribe player, marking the first time this season Anna Porter did not lead the Tribe in that category.
