WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Recent William & Mary graduate
Andy Van Vliet inked his first professional contract with BC Siauliai in the top division in Lithuania last week.
Van Vliet becomes the fourth Tribe player to sign in Lithuania and third to play for BC Siaulia. Laimis Kisielius '08 signed with the club in 2008 and has played eight seasons in the LKL, while Omar Prewitt '17 played part of his first professional season with BC Siaulia in 2017. In total 27 different Tribe players have played in 28 countries around the world, including 10 currently in the pro ranks.
Siauliai is the fourth largest city in Lithuania located in the northern part of the country. It's a gateway to the Hill of Crosses, just northeast. Founded in 1994, BC Siauliai finished eighth in the LKL in 2020. They last competed in the Baltic League in 2018 and FIBA Europe Cup in 2017. The organization won three-straight Baltic League titles in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
After sitting out the 2018-19 season as a transfer from Wisconsin, Van Vliet enjoyed a standout senior campaign, helping the Tribe to a 21-11 record and school records for road wins (10) and conference wins (13). He averaged 13.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in starting all 32 games this past season. Van Vliet earned All-CAA Third Team honors after helping W&M finish second in the league standings.
Van Vliet ranks among the league leaders in blocks shots (1.3), defensive rebounds, rebounding, scoring and field goal % (.461). He also tallied 10 double-doubles in 2019-20, which ranks among the top 75 nationally. Van Vliet was named the CAA Player of the Week on Nov. 18 after scoring 21 points in a win at Wofford and adding 22 points and 12 rebounds in a victory over Hampton. He also netted his career-high with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3, in a win over James Madison in January.
