Green & Gold Goodbyes – Natalia Perry

Hey Tribe!!

I can't believe that I am writing to you all as a result of our senior season ending (a moment that I know Char, Rosie, and I have been dreading since our freshman year). It has definitely been hard on us three seniors to accept that our season has ended this way. I would give anything to go back into the locker room one more time before a match and blast music with my teammates or even have one more team meal with everyone. I would even be willing to roll my ankle again a million more times to get this season back (kind of kidding, kind of not kidding). Tennis has always been a huge part of my life, and it is hard to come to terms with the fact that my college career has come to an end, but it is comforting to know that the relationships and friendships that I have built with all of you will last forever.

I wanted to take a moment to let you all know how amazing you have made my college experience. When I was going on recruiting visits as a senior in high school, I was terrified of leaving my hometown, my best friends, and my family. I didn't like any schools I visited, and I even convinced myself at one point that college wasn't really for me and that I would stay home and live with my parents forever (I got a solid "no" on that one. Thanks Mom and Dad, you were right, that would have been a bad idea). When I came to visit William & Mary, it instantly felt like home to me, and it was the first college I genuinely fell in love with. I have come to realize that it is all of you who make this place so special and a second home for all of us. I can't thank all of you enough for always making sure we were taken care of and for cheering your hearts out at all of our matches. You all are the reason that William & Mary is so special, and the reason that it will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Although my first response to all of this was definitely to be emotional, upset, and angry, Ty and Jesse always taught us to embrace adversity and to take everything as a learning lesson. With that in mind, I've learned that I need to value each and every day because it is never known what the next one could bring. I have also realized that I am so blessed and grateful to have had such an amazing experience that is so hard to let go of. I have made so many great memories here with such a special group of people. Although it is so painful to have to say goodbye to everyone so suddenly, I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to be surrounded by people who have become my second family, and who have always been there for me. I cannot thank everyone enough for continuing to support us through the ups and downs that we have experienced in these past four years.

Thank you to everyone reading this for always supporting us and always cheering for us at the top of your lungs at every match. Thank you to my teammates/sisters that I have had throughout my four years on the team for being the best teammates anyone could ask for. Thank you Char and Rosie for being the best sisters in the world, and for always being by my side throughout these past four years. I wouldn't have wanted to laugh, cry, or be crazy with anyone but you two by my side. As Char said, I could go on and on forever so I have to cut myself off. I just want you all to know that I will forever be grateful for each and every one of you, and that you all will always hold a very special place in my heart. I have so much love for my Tribe.

I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe, and I hope we can all see each other again sometime soon!!!

Lots of love,

Talie
