Pair of Big Innings Push Tribe Past Patriots

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- Two explosive innings and solid pitching helped William & Mary to a 13-3 win over George Mason Wednesday afternoon at Plumeri Park. The Tribe plated six runs in the second and four more in the seventh busting out to ten hits in the ballgame. Jacob Haney earned the win for the Tribe tossing five strong innings and Matt Howat pitched two perfect innings of relief striking out three.

George Mason opened up the scoring stringing together a pair of hits to score a run in the top of the second but the Tribe would strike back in their half of the inning. With one out, Matthew Trehub and Ben Williamson would force back to back walks. Both would move up a base on a Carlos Garrido single and score on a two-RBI rope from Cole Ragone

After Jack Cone was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Matt McDermott would clear the bases with a three-RBI double to deep left-center. McDermott would come home on a groundout by Matt Thomas. When the dust settled the Tribe plated six runs in the inning to snag a 6-1 lead.

Hunter Hart led off the third with a single up the middle and scored as Trehub laced a triple down the right-field line. A fielder's choice off the bat of Williamson brought in Trehub giving the Tribe an 8-1 edge.

The Patriots would get a pair of runs back in the top of the fifth via a walk and a pair of hits. Once again, the Tribe would answer scoring a run on four walks in the bottom of the sixth. WM would plate four more runs in the seventh highlighted by a two-run single from Hart.

Justin Pearson and Randy Prosperi would pitch clean eighth and ninth innings for the Tribe to secure the 13-3 win. William & Mary will have Thursday off before beginning a three-game series with Merrimack at Plumeri Park Friday afternoon.
