WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- Chris Farrell earned the win going six scoreless and
Tyler Solomon cracked a two-run homer to power the Tribe to a 10-2 victory Friday afternoon over Merrimack. The William & Mary bats were on fire knocking six extra-base hits in the game.
The Tribe jumped out to an early lead plating a pair of runs on three hits in the first.
Jack Cone led off with a double down the left-field line and would score on a deep sac fly from
Matt Thomas.
Brandon Raquet would follow with a double off the wall in right-center and come around on a
Hunter Hart single.
Merrimack would threaten in the fourth inning landing a man on third base with one out. Farrell would get Wayslow to fly out to right and
Matt Thomas would show off his cannon cutting down Golankiewicz at home to preserve the 2-0 lead.
W&M busted the game open with a five-run fourth inning highlighted by three extra-base hits. Hart led off with a single and would score on a Matt Trehub triple to right.
Ben Williamson knocked in Trehub with a single through the left side and came home on a
Tyler Solomon blast over the right-field wall. Later, Cone would walk and come around on
Matt McDermott's double to deep left-center giving the Tribe 7-0 edge.
The Tribe pushed it to 8-0 on
Tyler Solomon's bases-loaded sac fly to center in the bottom of the fifth and plated two more runs highlighted by another sac fly from Thomas.
Farrell finished the day with four strikeouts allowing just four hits and holding the opposition scoreless for the third time in four starts while improving to 2-0 on the year.
Nick Butts got the final nine outs allowing zero earned runs and striking out three.
The same two teams will be back on the diamond tomorrow for game two of the three-game set. First pitch between the Tribe and Warriors will be at 2:00 p.m. at Plumeri Park.

Hunter Hart's RBI single in the first inning ensured that his streak of knocking in a run in every start remained intact.
Matt Thomas earned his team-leading fourth outfield assist of the season cutting down the runner at home plate in the fourth inning.
Matt Trehub's fourth inning triple extended his hitting streak to 10 straight ballgames and gave the Tribe an NCAA-leading 11th three-bagger on the year.
Tyler Solomon's dinger over the right-field wall was his first career homer at William & Mary.
McDermott's fourth inning double extended his hitting streak to eight straight ball games.
It was Butts' second straight outing of 3.0 or more innings without allowing an earned run.
McDermott, Hart, and Raquet each knocked two hits for the Tribe. It was the third straight game with at least two hits for
Matt McDermott and the second for
Brandon Raquet.
