Frequently Asked Questions - October 6, 2020

William & Mary President Katherine A. Rowe announced Nov. 5 that the university will reset a review process to determine long-term sustainability for W&M Athletics. Read the latest FAQs related to that announcement.

When will Jeremy P. Martin Ph.D. '12, M.B.A. '17 become interim director of athletics?
He will become interim director of athletics effective immediately.

Why was this decision made?
As President Rowe's statement says, "Athletics Director Samantha Huge was asked to lead difficult change at William & Mary – change required to address long-standing imbalances and put the athletics department on sound financial and operational footing for years to come. She took on that challenge recognizing that it was in the best interest of the university and she continues to make decisions using that standard as her guide.

Now it is clear to me that a new approach is necessary. Accordingly, Director Huge and I have mutually agreed that it is best to part ways so the university can focus on the critical questions facing W&M Athletics. I accept this step with a heavy heart and with great respect for Samantha Huge and her leadership."

Will you reinstate the seven athletics programs that were going to be cut?
We are continuing the pause of this process announced by the president at the last meeting of the Board of Visitors while we complete the necessary work of sharing more transparently the financial challenges W&M Athletics faces and engaging forthrightly the alternative solutions. We owe it to the student athletes, staff and coaches to work as swiftly as we can as we pursue this shared path forward.
