WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary baseball coach
Brian Casey has been promoted to associate head coach as announced by head coach
Brian Murphy Wednesday morning. Coach Casey has served as the Tribe's pitching coach and recruiting coordinator since joining the program prior to the 2013 season. In seven seasons, he has helped lead the Tribe to two NCAA Tournaments (2013 and 2016), a CAA Regular Season Championship (2014), and a CAA Tournament Championship (2016).
"Coach Casey's loyalty to Tribe Baseball and his contributions to its success make him very deserving of this promotion," said Murphy. "He is a true professional and has positively impacted every area of our program."
With Casey's guidance, the 2019 Tribe pitching staff finished the year with a 3.84 Team ERA and held opponents to a .245 BAA. Senior pitcher
Bodie Sheehan finished his career with a William & Mary-high 55 starts and was named to the CAA All-Conference Team while
Zach Tsakounis earned CAA All-Rookie honors. The 2019 staff also saw Tribe reliever
Jamie Sara selected in the 25
th round of the 2019 draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.
In 2017, William & Mary earned its fifth straight postseason appearance behind a strong effort from the Tribe pitching staff. Nick Brown led the CAA with eight saves and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 32nd round. Nick Raquet became the third-highest pick in W&M history, selected in the third round by the Washington Nationals.
In 2016 Casey mentored Daniel Powers to an All-CAA selection and
Bodie Sheehan to the CAA All-Rookie team. In 2014, Casey was part of the Tribe's first-ever CAA regular-season title. A record-setting 39-win season in 2013 allowed the Green and Gold to earn its first-ever NCAA Tournament at-large bid and win its first regional games in school history.
Since joining the Tribe, Casey has had four pitchers selected in the MLB Draft, eight hurlers selected to the all-conference team, three to the CAA All-Tournament squad, and a pair of CAA All-Rookie performers.
Coach Casey and the Tribe will open up regular season play at East Carolina on February 14th before returning for the home-opener a week later against Fairleigh Dickenson at Plumeri Park.
