Hollis Mathis and freshman safety/kick returner
Bronson Yoder earned weekly awards from the Colonial Athletic Association. Mathis garnered CAA Rookie of the Week distinction, while Yoder was chosen as the co-Special Teams Player of the Week.
Mathis earned the league's top weekly honor for a rookie for the second time this season after completing 11 of 19 passes for 189 yards with a touchdown. Additionally, he rushed for 62 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown.
The Pittsburgh, Pa., native was especially effective during the first half when he completed 8 of 12 passes for 159 yards with the score, which came on a 27-yard strike to wideout
Jordan Lowery.
One of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the CAA, Mathis currently ranks seventh among all the league's players in rushing with 66.3 yards per game.
Yoder shared the conference's special teams player of the week distinction with Elon's Shamari Wingard after his electrifying 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The score came at a pivotal moment during the third quarter, as it answered a Colgate touchdown that narrowed the Tribe's lead to 17-10. Yoder's score marked the program's longest return since Jonathan Grimes' 97-yard touchdown against Villanova in 2008.
Yoder also posted a tackle and finished the contest with 113 return yards.
Off to an outstanding start to his rookie campaign, the Nappanee, Ind., native currently leads the nation in kickoff return average (40.4).
