How It Happened
- Hofstra erupted for four runs in the home half of the fourth inning. Austin Gauthier led off the inning with a single, before moving to second a sacrifice bunt by Kevin O'Connor. Anthony D'Onofrio legged out an infield single, but the throw to first was errant and it allowed for the first run to score and D'Onofrio reach second. After a walk and a wild pitch put runners on the corners, Sean Rausch brought in the second run on a bunt single. The rally continued as Austin Pollack hit a sacrifice fly, before Vito Friscia doubled to make it 4-0.
- W&M jumped to the lead as it plated five runs in the top of the sixth inning. Senior
Kyle Wrighte led off of the inning with a walk, before moving to second on a one-out infield single from classmate
Owen Socher. The next batter, junior
Brandon Raquet tripled to right field to clear the bases and cut the Pride lead in half. The rally continued as senior
Zach Pearson slapped a single through the left side to get the Tribe within a run. After a walk to senior
Hunter Smith, junior
Matthew Trehub singled to center, but the ball got away from the centerfielder to tie the score. Sophomore
Matt McDermott capped the rally with an infield single to make it 5-4 W&M.
- The Tribe added another run in the visitor's half of the eighth inning. Smith led off the inning with a walk, before moving to third on a single from Trehub. Senior
Jason Waldman grounded into a fielder's choice, but it was enough to score Smith from third.
- W&M put the game away as it scored five more runs in the top of the ninth. Back-to-back singles from Socher and Raquet put runners on second and third with no outs. After an out, Smith was intentionally walked to load the bases. Both Waldman and Trehub were hit by pitches to bring in the first two runs of the inning. McDermott then doubled to left field to bring home two, before Waldman scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-4 Tribe.
