TOWSON, Md. – On the day he set the school record for games started senior
Bodie Sheehan turned in one of his best as he and the William & Mary baseball team's offense pounced Towson 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Schuerholz Park in Towson, Md. With the win, the Tribe takes the series and improves to 25-18, 7-10 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Tigers drop to 11-31, 5-9 in league action.
Sheehan twirled eight shutout innings as he scattered seven hits and worked out of jams all afternoon. He picked up his fourth win of the season while adding five strikeouts in the game. Sophomore
Justin Pearson closed the Tribe's first shutout since March 16, 2018, with a strikeout and a double play in the ninth inning.
Offensively, sophomore
Matt McDermott led the way going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Seniors
Kyle Wrighte and
Zach Pearson also added multi-hit games in the victory, while Wrighte drove in two runs. Classmates
Hunter Smith and
Owen Socher, as well as junior
Brandon Raquet all, had an RBI in the win as well.

How it Happened
- W&M continued to take advantage of scoring in the second inning as the Tribe plated two runs with two outs. Junior
Brandon Raquet started the rally with a single to right. The speedy Raquet came around to score as sophomore
Matt McDermott doubled off of the leftfield wall. Senior
Kyle Wrighte kept the inning alive as he singled into left and gave the Tribe a 2-0 cushion.
- Heads up base running led to the Tribe's third run of the game. With runners on the corners, junior
Matthew Trehub and freshman
Jack Cone executed a double steal to perfection, allowing Cone to score from third.
- Senior
Bodie Sheehan and the W&M defense danced around a Towson rally in the bottom of the third inning. After a double from Trey Martinez and a single from Tom Flacco put runners on the corners with no outs, Flacco was picked off of first. The next batter, Javon Fields sent a dribbler back to Sheehan and he rocketed it to the plate to cut down Martinez, before ending the inning by picking Fields off of first.
- The Green and Gold extended its lead with two more runs in the visitor's half of the fourth. With one out, McDermott slapped a single passed the third-baseman to start the inning. On the next pitch, Wrighte roped a double down the rightfield line that scored McDermott all the way from first. W&M made it three hits in a row as senior
Owen Socher shot a single back through the box to make it 5-0 Tribe.
- W&M added another run in the fifth. With one out, Trehub singled before senior
Colin Lipke doubled off of the rightfield wall to put runners on second and third. Raquet, followed, by grounding out to short, but it was enough to score Trehub.
- Senior
Hunter Smith extended the Tribe's lead to a touchdown as he hit a solo homer in the top of the seventh. He crushed his 11th over the rightfield wall.
Inside the Numbers
- W&M outhit Towson 12-8 in the victory.
- Both teams left six runners on base.
- The Tribe, again, made no errors in the game and improved to 9-4 in games when not making an error.
- W&M had four extra-base hits – three doubles and a homer.

Brandon Raquet now has a pair of RBIs this weekend to give him 16 for the year and 54 in his time in Williamsburg … With four runs in the second inning so far this weekend, W&M is now outscoring its opponents 44-11 in the inning … For the 10th time this season, W&M recorded multiple double plays to bring its total 39 for the season.
