WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary baseball team dropped a doubleheader falling 11-9 in 10 innings in game one, before dropping an 8-2 decision in the second game to Elon on Saturday at Plumeri Park. With the setbacks, the Tribe falls to 22-15, 5-9 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Phoenix improve to 23-16, 12-2 in league play.
In game one, Elon thwarted W&M's comeback hopes with a two-run homer from Ty Adcock in the top of the 10th inning. The Tribe erased a four-run deficit in the bottom of the eighth to force extra innings. W&M had homers from seniors
Owen Socher and Jason Waldman, while a two-out single in the ninth from classmate
Colin Lipke tied the game.
The Phoenix scored six unanswered runs to claim the second game. With the score tied 2-2, Elon got a pair of runs in the fourth, before solo runs in the sixth and seventh, and two more insurance runs in the ninth. Elon starter George Kirby pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts.

How It Happened
- W&M opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Junior
Matthew Trehub led off the inning with a single, before freshman
Hunter Hart reached on an error, and junior
Brandon Raquet beat out a bunt single to load the bases. The next batter, senior
Owen Socher reached on a fielder's choice to bring home the game's first run, before Hart scored on an error to make it 2-0.
- Elon struck for four runs in the top of the third to charge to the lead. With an out, Jarrett Pico singled, but the Tribe got the second out of the frame. A single from Anthony Gleason put runners on the corners, but a walk and a hit by a pitch gave the Phoenix its first run. The next batter, Cam Devanney doubled to right center to clear the bases and make it 4-2 Elon.
- The Tribe got one back in the home half of the third. Senior
Zach Pearson reached on a fielder's choice, before Trehub was hit by a pitch with two outs. Hart shot a single over the third baseman's head to score Pearson, but Trehub was thrown out trying to tie the score.
- Elon came right back with a run in the top of the fourth. Adam Spurlin led off the inning with a walk, before stealing second. With an out, Jarrett Pico singled to left to plate Spurlin.
- Senior
Owen Socher brought the Tribe back within a run for the second time in the bottom of the frame. He belted a one-out homer over the left wall to make it 5-4.
- The Phoenix scored three runs to push its lead to four runs with one in the fifth and two in the seventh. In the fifth, Galason led off the inning by reaching on an error, before moving to second a wild pitch. With two outs, Devanney doubled to bring in the run. Two innings later, Devanney sparked the rally again with a triple to left center and that was followed by a walk to Ty Adcock. After an out, Nick Cicci singled scoring both runners.
- W&M rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to one for the third time. Freshman
Matt Thomas led off the inning with a single, before moving up 90 feet on a groundout. The next batter, senior
Jason Waldman smoked a line drive homer over the left field wall. With two outs, Pearson restarted the rally with a double into right centerfield, before Trehub tripled off of the wall, just missing the tying homer, to cut the lead to 8-7.
- Elon grabbed an insurance run in the top of the ninth. A two-out walk to Pico started the rally, before a triple by Tyler Stanley made it 9-7.
- The Tribe didn't go away and forced extras after it was down to its final out. Junior
Brandon Raquet walked and Socher was hit by a pitch to set the table. After a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position and an out, senior
Colin Lipke looped a single into right centerfield to tie the score.
- Elon regrouped and won the game in the top of the 10th. With two outs and a runner on Adcock belted a homer over the left field wall to make it 11-9.
Inside the Numbers
- W&M outhit Elon on the game 12-11.
- However, the Tribe stranded 12 men on base compared to just 10 for the Phoenix.

Wade Strain went 4.2 innings allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits while striking out four. Sophomore
Randy Prosperi was saddled with his second loss of the season after surrendering three runs on three hits.

How It Happened
-Elon scored a pair of runs in the top of the second inning to start the scoring. A walk to Cam Devanney and back-to-back singles from Ty Adcock and Anthony Galason loaded the bases. A walk to Matt Oldham scored the first run, and Sheehan traded the second run for a double play.
- W&M stormed back and tied the score in the home half of the inning. With one out, junior
Matthew Trehub and senior
Owen Socher sandwiched singles around an out. The next batter, sophomore
Matt McDermott singled to bring home Trehub, but the relay to the plate ended up in the Elon dugout to tie the score.
- Elon retook the lead with two-runs thanks to the long ball in the top of the fourth inning. A leadoff single from Nick Cicci started the rally, before Oldham homered over the right field wall to push the score to 4-2.
- The Phoenix added a pair of single runs in the sixth and seventh inning to extend its lead. In the sixth, Elon took advantage of back-to-back Tribe errors, before a double from Galason and single from Satterfield made it 6-2 in the seventh.
- Elon put two more on the board in the top of the ninth. Devanney led the inning off with a double, before a one-out single from Cicci put runners on the corners. After an out, Devanney came around to score when Cicci stole second. Adam Spurlin followed by lining a single to left to make the score 8-2.

Bodie Sheehan was saddled with his second loss of the season. He tossed 6.1 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits.
