SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Feb. 24, 2019)— The William & Mary men's gymnastics team posted its best score of the season en route to winning a tri-meet hosted by Springfield on Sunday afternoon.
W&M claimed the team title with a 394.15 and was followed by Springfield (376.7) and Temple (352.55).
In addition to sweeping all six events as a team, the Tribe posted a season-high score on pommel horse (67.65).
Jacopo Gliozzi highlighted the Tribe's individual performances by winning the pommel horse title with a school-record 15.3, while
Andrew Lyubovsky earned the top score on parallel bars (14.0) and high bar (13.7). Additionally,
David Watkins (rings, 13.85) and
Jack Hasenkopf (vault, 14.6) both won individual event titles.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
Floor, 64.25 –
Cutter Fugett (13.6) and
Collin Lillie (13.25, career high) led the Tribe on floor, as they placed second and third, respectively.
Pommel Horse, 67.65 – Gliozzi's record-setting performance (15.3) led the Tribe on pommel horse, while
Spencer Schrandt placed second with a career-high 13.9 to help the squad post its best score of the season in the event.
Rings, 64.65 – W&M gymnasts secured the top two scores on rings, as Watkins won the event with a 13.85 and Gliozzi finished second with a 13.2.
Vault, 69.95 – Hasenkopf winning effort on vault (14.6) was a career high and ranks tied for third in school history. Lillie also came up big by equaling his career high (14.4), which ranks seventh in the program's record book.
Parallel Bars, 64.7 – Lyubovsky won the parallel bars title with a career-high 14.0, which ranks tied for eighth in W&M's record book, while
Ian Creelman and
Nate Winneg also contributed to the team total with a pair of 13.0's. The score represents a season high for Winneg.
High Bar, 62.95 – Lyubovsky also won the high bar title with a 13.7, while
David Allen placed second with a 13.35.
