RICHMOND, Va. – For the third time this season, William & Mary women's basketball freshman
Bre Bellamy has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Rookie of the Week for the week of Dec. 30. She previously won the award for the weeks of Nov. 25 and Dec. 2.
Bellamy contributed in all aspects of the Tribe's 14-point comeback win at George Washington on Sunday afternoon. The freshman scored five points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out four dimes, had a block, and two thefts in the victory. Bellamy has started all 11 games and is averaging 6.4 points, 3.9 rebounds per game while adding 17 assists, nine blocks, and 13 steals.
The three rookie of the week honors is one behind the W&M school record of four, which dates back to the league starting the award in the 2002-03 season. Current sophomore
Eva Hodgson, W&M all-time leading scorer Kyra Kaylor, and Dominique Lewis each won four rookie of the week awards.
W&M has now claimed four weekly awards and an honorable mention citation so far this season. Aside from Bellamy's three rookie of the weeks, senior
Victoria Reynolds was named the CAA Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 9 and Hodgson was tabbed honorable mention player of the week for the week of Nov. 25.
The Green and Gold opens Colonial Athletic Association play and continues its three-game road swing next weekend. The Tribe travels to James Madison on Friday, Jan. 3, before closing its trek at Towson on Sunday, Jan. 5. Tip times are set for 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
