RALEIGH, N.C. – The William & Mary baseball team had four players collect two hits each, but it wouldn't be enough as fifth-ranked NC State dispatched the Tribe, 7-3, in the series finale on Sunday. The Wolfpack (34-12) took advantage of 10 walks in completing a sweep of W&M (15-32).
The Green and Gold answered first for the second straight time after scoring in the opening frame. Sophomore
Brandon Raquet barreled a double to right center to lead off the first. Following the first out, senior
Ryan Hall crushed another double down the right line to plate Raquet.
After being held in check through three innings, NC State was able to break through with five runs through the fourth and fifth. The Wolfpack manufactured four runs on four hits and two Tribe errors in the fourth. During the fifth, the Wolfpack placed runners on the corners, before using a sac bunt to take a 5-1 lead.
An RBI single from rookie
Matt McDermott in the sixth inning and a seventh inning leadoff bomb from Raquet trimmed the margin to 5-3. Nonetheless, the Wolfpack used a two-out spark to take those W&M runs back in the bottom half of the seventh. After the first two batters were retired, Terrell Tatum and Stephen Pitarra both walked. Both were runners were then scored via back-to-back singles for the 7-3 final.
Tribe Standouts
Raquet provided majority of the power with his double and home run, adding two scored runs as well. Junior
