WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Junior
Zach Pearson notched two hits with a triple and classmate
Hunter Smith homered, but the William & Mary baseball team fell to CAA foe UNCW, 7-2, on Easter Sunday. The Seahawks (19-8, 4-2) went yard three times to take the conference series from the Tribe (10-18, 1-5).
Both teams exchanged runs for a one-all score after the first three innings. Ryan Jeffers hit a solo shot to left center in the opening frame for UNCW, but Pearson tripled to right center and came home on a
Ryan Hall sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third.
However, the Seahawks added four more runs, three of them on dingers, in the next three frames to jump out to a 5-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Smith made it a three-run affair after crushing a solo bomb to right field. Nonetheless, UNCW wouldn't slow down and scored two more runs to put the game away.
