WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary baseball team surrendered three unanswered runs as CAA foe UNCW rallied past the Tribe, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks (18-8, 3-2) tallied three hits apiece in the sixth and eighth inning to complete the comeback and even the series with W&M (10-17, 1-4).
For the second time this weekend, the Tribe grabbed an early advantage after tacking on runs in the first and third inning. Just like last night, senior
Ryan Hall led off the Tribe with an extra base hit, this time a double down the left line. Hall then made it all the way home on wild pitches.
In the bottom of the third, freshman
David Hogarth hit a one-out single to the shortstop and advanced on a throwing error. A wild pitch moved Hogarth 90 feet away from the plate, before junior
Hunter Smith provided a RBI fielder's choice.
However, the Seahawks began their charge in the top of the sixth. Two singles put UNCW in business and Mason Berne hit a two-out RBI double down the right field line. The Seahawks' rally continued in the eighth inning as back-to-back one-out doubles helped even the contest. The game-winning run was scored on a RBI single through the left side by David Sheaffer.
Tribe Standouts
Hall and sophomore
Brandon Raquet tallied two hits each, while junior
Jason Waldman doubled and classmate
