BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The William & Mary baseball team dropped its doubleheader at Campbell by scores of 12-0 and 4-3 to conclude the weekend series on Saturday. The Tribe (5-12) took an early two-run advantage in game two, but the Camels (6-9) rallied to claim the series.
Game One: Campbell 12, W&M 0
The Camels had four pitchers combine for a four-hit shutout, while the offense generated 19 hits to take game one of the doubleheader. The Tribe faced just a two-run deficit, before CU pulled away behind a five-run frame in the third inning.
Campbell totaled five more runs in the fourth and fifth, before the Tribe managed keep the Camels of the scoreboard the remainder of the contest.
Game Two: Campbell 4, W&M 3
The Green and Gold tallied three extra base hits in the final game of the weekend, but was unable to produce a run down the stretch to keep pace with CU.
Campbell struck first with a run in the opening frame, but the Tribe took the advantage with a three-run inning in the top of the third. Freshman
Matt McDermott crushed a one-out triple to right center and junior
Owen Socher drew a walk, setting the table. Junior
Nick Butts laced a RBI double down the left line to score the first run. Hall then platted Socher on a grounder, before junior
Hunter Smith squeezed an RBI single through the left side.
However, the Camels scored once in the fourth inning and went on to erase the two-run deficit in the sixth. Back-to-back hit by pitches placed the go-ahead run on first base. On the next at bat, Kyle Mehl evened the game with an RBI single to left center. A RBI grounder to shortstop then allowed CU to complete the rally effort, 4-3.

Ryan Hall and sophomore
Patrick Ryan both doubled, while four-year hurler
Christopher Lohr tossed two scoreless innings with a strikeout and four hits.
McDermott enjoyed an exceptional performance in game two after finishing 2-for-4 with his first career triple and run scored. Junior
Colin Lipke matched Butts with a double and RBI, and senior
Luca Farina had a base hit in each contest.
