The William & Mary men's swimming team completed its sweep of the CAA Pod Meet on Sunday at Delaware's Rawstrom Natatorium, picking up two more dual-meet records and winning three of the six events. The Tribe out-scored UNCW 187-154 and host Delaware 256-59, to improve to 5-2 overall and complete its fourth-straight undefeated conference season at 3-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Not content with his two dual-meet records from Saturday's action, junior
Chris Balbo (Short Hills, N.J.) finished out his weekend with a third record and a perfect 6-0 record after he swept the 500 free in 4:34.61. Balbo now has a team-best 15 wins on the season. Senior
Carter Kale (Williamsburg, Va.) got in on the record action himself, sweeping the 200 fly in 1:49.82 to nab a record that had been Balbo's from last season. Also in the 200 fly, freshman
Steven Thalblum (Ashburn, Va.) continued his strong season with a second-place 1:51.40 to improve to 15th all-time at W&M in the event.
W&M also got an overall win in one of its signature events, the 400 free relay. Senior
Evan Baker (Chantilly, Va.) led the team off and classmate
Eric Grimes (Louisville, Ky.) dove in second, the two combining to put the Tribe in second but excellent position heading into the back half of the race. Junior
Colin Wright (Williamsburg, Va.) capitalized on that effort with a 44.6 leg that sling-shotted the Tribe into front, and
Jack Doherty (Middletown, Conn.) finished things off with a 45.4 on the anchor. Combined the quartet swam 3:03.43 to win by more than 1.5 seconds.
The Tribe had three more wins over Delaware on the day, including in the 100 free where Doherty swam 46.25. In the 200 back,
Jake Kealy (Wilton, Conn.) touched the wall in 1:50.55, and in the 200 breast,
Brooks Peterson (Carrollton, Va.) swam 2:08.01 for his win.
William & Mary has wrapped up its dual meets for the fall, and now have the next week off to prepare for Northwestern's TYR Invitational, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 16-18 in Evanston, Ill.
