The William & Mary women's swimming team won six events on Saturday, including both relays, but was edged by host UMBC 158-134. The Tribe moves to 1-4 early in the season, while the Retrievers improved to 3-1 overall.
Highlights for W&M included the work of senior
Annie Miller (Houston, Texas), who won the 50 free in 24.17 seconds, and also swam on both winning relays. Along with her sweep of the 50 yesterday in the Navy Quad, Miller finished the weekend a perfect 4-0 in her signature event. She started the meet by anchoring the 200 medley relay of
Anna Kenna (Chantilly, Va.),
Ellie Henry (Southern Pines, N.C.), and
Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.) to victory in 1:46.70, and finished the day with a lead-off on the 400 free relay that won in 3:35.22. Miller was joined on the second relay by Sell again, as well as
Tara Tiernan (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Megan Bull (Hillsborough, N.J.).
Other Tribe victories went to Kenna, who continued her strong start to the season in the 100 back with a winning time of 58.45 seconds. Tiernan won the 200 back in 2:07.05, and junior
Lauren Freeman (Fairfax Station, Va.) won the 200 breast in 2:26.10.
After a long weekend of swimming, William & Mary has the next week off before returning to action on Nov. 3-4 at the CAA Pod Meet. The meet this year will include defending CAA Champions James Madison, Delaware, and UNCW, and will be hosted by the Blue Hens in Newark, Del.
