Men's Soccer Hosts Campbell on Saturday Afternoon

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Following a season-long three-match road trip, the William & Mary men's soccer team returns home to face Big South foe Campbell on Saturday afternoon. The match-up carries at 2 p.m., start time from Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.

Scouting the Tribe
The Tribe saw its four-match unbeaten streak come to a close at No. 8 North Carolina, 3-2, on Wednesday night. The Green and Gold currently sit at 2-2-2 on the year with both losses coming by just one goal to national top-20 programs. Along with the UNC loss, W&M's other setback came at the hands of currently No. 18 Michigan, who played to a 1-1 draw at top-ranked Indiana on Wednesday night. During its four-match unbeaten streak, the Tribe posted wins over N.C. State, who is currently ranked No. 18 by Soccer America, by a 3-2 score in overtime and at George Washington, 2-1. W&M played both Loyola (Md.) and Drexel to scoreless draws. Over the last four contests, the Tribe defense owns a 0.95 goals against average, including a pair of shutouts. Senior goalkeeper Phil Breno stopped 81 percent (17-of-21) of the shots he faced over the last four games, including a season-high seven saves at UNC. Senior William Eskay and junior Ryder Bell top the Tribe with two goals apiece on the year, while Eskay and junior Marcel Berry are tied for the team lead in assists with two. Eskay is tied for the CAA lead in points and goals, while Bell is tied for the league lead in goals. Berry and Eskay are No. 2 in the conference in assists.
 
Scouting Campbell
After dropping its season opener at North Florida, the Camels have gone unbeaten in their last five matches. Campbell posted four-straight wins, including three via shutout, before playing Old Dominion to a 1-1 draw in Norfolk on Tuesday night. JJ Donnelly, the team's leading scorer, tallied the equalizer in the 74th minute against the Monarchs. Donnelly netted a hat trick in the team's 3-0 win over Howard. His four goals rank 17th nationally. The Camels also downed Jacksonville (1-0), Navy (2-1) and Central Arkansas (1-0) during its four-match win streak. Bastien Oberli and Gabe Parrish are tied for the team lead with three assists each, which leads the Big South and ranks 25th nationally. Campbell goalkeeper Matthew Mozynski owns a save percentage of better than 85 to go along with 23 saves, three shutouts and a goals against average of 0.63. He ranks 11th nationally in shutouts, 22nd in save percentage and 29th in GAA. Mozynski made a season-high seven saves in the win over Jacksonville.
 
Series History: W&M vs. Campbell
- The Tribe leads the all-time series with Campbell at 4-0, outscoring the Camels, 14-7 in those four contests.
- W&M won the only meeting so far between the teams in Williamsburg, tallying a 3-2 overtime victory in 2008.
- Last season, the Tribe fell behind early in the second half, but ripped off five unanswered goals to down the Camels, 5-1,  in Buies Creek.
- Reeves Trott led the way for W&M with two goals and two assists, while William Eskay added a goal and an assist. Ryder Bell registered the game-winner in the 58th minute.
 
Common Ground
- W&M and Campbell have seen a common opponent in 2017 in Navy.
- The Tribe faced the Midshipmen during the exhibition portion of the schedule, while the Camels recorded a 2-1 overtime win in late August. Josh Hughes scored in the 105th minute as CU rallied past Navy, who scored in the eighth minute.
- The Tribe posted a 3-1 victory in the exhibition victory. Senior William Eskay scored twice, while junior Antonio Bustamante factored in all three scores with a goal and two assists.  
 
UNC Recap
- The Tribe twice rallied from a goal deficit against No. 8 North Carolina in a back-and-forth offensive battle. The Tar Heels eventually scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute from Alan Winn off a free kick.
- Senior William Eskay scored his second goal of the season to equalize in the first half. Sophomore Reeves Trott sent in a cross from the right wing, and Eskay beat a defender and UNC goalkeeper to the ball, touching inside the near post from six-yards out.
- After the Tar Heels took a 2-1 advantage into the locker room, junior Antonio Bustamante rifled in a goal from 25-yards out in the 69th minute. Eskay picked up the assist feeding a long throw from junior Ryder Bell back to Bustamante.
- UNC outshot the Tribe, 18-12, on the evening, including a 10-6 advantage in attempts on frame. The Tar Heels held a slim 9-7 shot cushion at half time and a 9-5 advantage in the second half.
 - Senior goalkeeper Phil Breno finished with a season-high seven saves against UNC. It was the second-highest total of his Tribe career.
 - UNC held a slim 8-6 advantage in corner kicks, but the Tribe had four compared to the Tar Heels' three in the second half.

Eskay Reaching a Milestone
- Senior William Eskay eclipsed the 50-point mark for his Tribe career with a goal and an assist at No. 8 North Carolina. It marked the third time in his career that he recorded a goal and an assist in a game.
- Eskay scored in the 32nd minute against UNC to pull W&M even at one. It was his 18th career goal and pushed him over the 50-point mark. He later added an assist on the Tribe's second marker.
- For his career, Eskay also owns 16 assists and 52 points. He is the Tribe's active career leader in all three categories (goals, assists and points).
- Eskay has two goals and two assists for six points on the year, leading the Tribe in all three. He is tied for the CAA in both points and goals, while ranking second in assists.

Playing a Challenging Schedule
- Heading into the 2017 season, the Tribe's schedule looked like a difficult slate and the early returns have reinforced that sentiment. Including Saturday's game with Campbell, Tribe's first seven opponents are a combined 21-10-5 on the year, good for a winning percentage of 65.2.
- Four of the Tribe's opening seven opponents are all ranked in the top 10 of their respective regions. Loyola (Md.) is No. 2 in the Northeast Region, while Michigan is No. 4 in the Midwest Region. North Carolina and N.C. State come in at No. 4 and No. 10 in the South Region.
- Those same four opponents are all nationally-ranked or listed among the also receiving votes category in the major collegiate soccer polls. North Carolina and Michigan are ranked in all four polls. The Tar Heels are ranked as high as No. 6 by College Soccer News, while Michigan is No. 18 according to the United Soccer Coaches.  N.C. State is ranked No. 18 nationally by Soccer America, and Loyola is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
 
Top Drawer Soccer Conference Top 20
- The Tribe placed three players among the top 10 and five total in the top 20 in the Colonial Athletic Association's top players according to the web site Top Drawer Soccer.
- Both the Tribe and Delaware led the CAA with three top-10 selections and five total top-20 picks.
- Junior Antonio Bustamante was selected as the top player in the league by the organization followed by Ryder Bell at No. 3, Marcel Berry at No. 6, William Eskay at No. 13 and Tanner Shane at No. 20.
