WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Following a three-game sweep in its home opening series against Lafayette, the William & Mary baseball team will hit the road for a pair of mid-week contests starting with No. 13 Virginia on Tuesday, Feb. 28 and VMI on Wednesday, March 1. Both contest are slated to start at 3:00 p.m.

Scouting the Cavaliers
Virginia is off to a hot start to the 2017 season and have moved up to as high as No. 12 in some national polls. The Cavaliers are currently 7-0 and are coming off of a weekend sweep of Rutgers. As a team, UVA is batting .349 in the early going. Robbie Coman leads four Wahoos that are hitting over .400 to begin the season at .481. He has added two doubles, three homers, and RBI. Adam Hasley is hitting .429 with three homers as well and 10 RBI. Pavin Smith leads the way with 12 RBI. As a team, Virginia has posted a 3.71 ERA through seven games. Tuesday's starter Derek Casey tossed 5.0 innings in his first start of the season allowing two runs on four hits. Brian O'Conner is in his 14th season at UVA. He owns a 603-223-2 record at Virginia.

Scouting the Keydets
VMI awaits W&M on Wednesday afternoon in Lexington after they took a weekend series from Bucknell over the weekend. The Keydets sit at 3-5 in the early stages of the season. As a team, they are hitting .233 through the first eight games. Tyler Tharp leads the offense with .407 batting average, adding three doubles, three homers and nine RBI. Tharp's homer and RBI total lead the squad. Matt Dunlevy and Collin Fleischer are second on the team with five RBI, while Will Malbon is second with two homers. On the mound, VMI owns a 5.56 team ERA. Josh Winder has pitched the most innings at 14, posting a 3.86 ERA. Zak Kent is tied for the team lead with three appearances. He owns a 1.35 ERA with six strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Jonathan Hadra is in his third season at the helm of his alma mater. He owns a 45-70 mark during his tenure.

Series History vs. Virginia
W&M and Virginia meet for the 102nd time in series history on Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers own a 74-30-2 advantage over the Tribe, including taking two of three last year. However, W&M got the last laugh eliminating the Cavaliers from the Charlottesville Regional in the last meeting between the two teams. Last season, senior
Ryder Miconi led the Tribe by going 4-for-8 in the three games. He added a double and a run scored. Junior
Ryan Hall hit .333 (4-for-12) with two homers in four RBI.

The Tribe will then meet VMI for the 47th time in series history on Wednesday afternoon. However, this will be the first meeting since April 21, 2015 when the Tribe picked up an 8-2 road win in Lexington. That day, then-freshman

William & Mary continues its road trip with three games in the Irish Classic at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C. This weekend. The Green and Gold squares off with Monmouth on March 3, Dayton on March 4, and Rhode Island on March 5. The swing concludes as the Tribe heads to Maryland on Tuesday, March 7.

Commonwealth Clash
This week's two games against in-state rivals are the first two of 15 times W&M squares off from another school from the Commonwealth. W&M plays Virginia (2/28), VMI (3/1, 3/22), Virginia Tech (3/8, 3/21), Norfolk State (3/14, 4/12), Old Dominion (3/29, 4/11), VCU (4/4), Richmond (4/18), James Madison (4/21-23) and George Mason (4/26).

Makes You Wanna Stay
The Tribe baseball team played its first extra inning game of the 2017 campaign on Feb. 24 topping Lafayette 5-4. Last season, W&M saw four games go to extra innings, but went 1-3. The Green and Gold has, however, won its last two extra innings dating back to last season.

Bring Out the Brooms
W&M completed the three-game sweep of Lafayette last weekend for its first weekend sweep of the season. The Tribe has now recorded, at least, one series sweep in each of the last eight seasons. It was the first series sweep since last April when W&M won all three games at Northeastern.

Junior
Ryan Hall had a big weekend against the Leopards collecting four hits, including his first two homers of the 2017 season. He sits second on the team with six RBI, while leading the team with his two homers.
