Five Unanswered Second Half Goals Leads Men's Soccer to 5-1 Win at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After coincinding the game's first goal for the first time all season, the William & Mary men's soccer team exploded for five unanswered goals to drop Campbell 5-1 on Saturday night. Junior William Eskay sophomore Ryder Bell, redshirt senior Jeff Bombelles, and freshman Reeves Trott (twice) all scored in the Green and Gold's fourth straight victory. With the win, the Tribe improves to 4-1, while the Camels fall to 1-2.

"Campbell did a great job defensively in the first half," said head coach Chris Norris. "They made it diffuclt for us to play. They scored a great goal early in the second, but our response was fantastic. We created numerous opportunites and took our chacnes well. It was certainly a hard-fought win."

The five-goal outburst was the most goals the Green and Gold has registered in a single contest since the 2013 season. On Nov. 14, 2013 in the CAA semifinals, W&M beat UNCW 6-3.

The Tribe controlled a scoreless opening 45 minutes. W&M outshot the Camels, 5-0, and also took the only five corner kicks of the first half. The Green and Gold's best scoring chances came in the 21st and 33rd minutes. Bell and Eskay, respectively, took chances on frame, but each time Campbell goalkeeper Matthew Mozynski was up to the task with the save.

Campbell took the lead and ended the Tribe's 243-minute shutout streak with a goal just three minutes into the second half. Gabe Parrish one-touched to Juan Valderrama, who scored from 25 yards out and put the Camels on top 1-0 in the 48th minute.

W&M finally broke through the Camel defense with two goals over a four-minute stretch. Just six minutes after the home team took the lead, the Tribe found the equalizer from Eskay. He beat Campbell goalkeeper Mozynski one-versus-one following a through pass from Trott in the 54th minute. It was Eskay's second goal of the second and Trott's first career assist.

The Tribe defense cleared a Campbell shot from Parrish off the line just over a minute later to keep the match tied. Bell put the Green and Gold on top with his second goal of the season in the 58th minute. His initial shot of the sequence was denied by Mozynski, but the Tribe sophomore collected the rebound and slotted it home to give W&M a 2-1 lead.

The College added its third marker 76th minute. Trott drove the box and fired a shot towards the frame, but a Camels defender blocked it. Bombelles raced towards the loose ball, collected and scored. His first goal of the season and his first goal since his freshman season gave the Tribe a 3-1 lead.

W&M put away its fourth goal of the match 84th minute. Eskay drove the box and sent a feed to the middle of the penalty area that found Trott. The rookie fired a shot that was deflected off of a defender, but found its way into the back of the net.

Trott struck again in the 90th minute of the match. With the Camels pushing up, redshirt junior Riley Spain sent a long ball that set Trott free to a one-versus-one with goalkeeper. Trott beat the goal and gave W&M a 5-1 advantage.

The College returns home as they welcome Georgetown to Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Tuesday on Sept. 13. Kickoff between the Tribe and the Hoyas is set for 7 p.m.
