The William & Mary men's swimming team out-swam East Carolina on Saturday at the JMU Duals, but finished behind the Pirates in the final score after diving was factored in, 148-124. The Tribe moves to 4-3 overall, while ECU improved to 2-1 on the season.
Top honors on the day again went to senior
Joe Eiden (White Plains, N.Y.), who was perfect in his three individual races and also anchored the 200 free relay to the 14th-fastest time in school history, 1:23.01. That hand-off quartet began with
Kyle Neri (Wallingford, Conn.), then passed through
Alex Montes de Oca (Orange, Va.) and
Colin Wright (Williamsburg, Va.) before reaching Eiden. Individually, the big senior started with a win in the 200 free in 1:41.51, then also swept the 50 free and 100 free in 20.93 seconds and 45.53 seconds, respectively.
Freshman
Chris Balbo (Short Hills, N.J.) also continued his torrid start to the year, winning twice against the Pirates. First, he cycled through every stroke to win the 400 IM in 4:00.64, and improved to 10th all-time among Tribe athletes in the event. Later in the day, he came through with a 4:38.18 showing to win the 500 free. Junior
Evan Baker (Chantilly, Va.) also picked up an individual win, touching the wall in 50.32 seconds to stop the clock in the 100 fly.
William & Mary will wrap up action on the weekend on Sunday afternoon, facing Delaware at 12:30 p.m.
