HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The William & Mary men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association decision to first-place Hofstra in Hempstead on Saturday night. Sophomore
Antonio Bustamante scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the setback. With the result the Tribe falls to 6-4-2, 1-2-2 in CAA action, while the Pride improves to 7-4-1, 5-0-0 in league play.
Hofstra had the first three chances of the night on the attack. Luke Brown fired a shot in the sixth minute that was blocked by a Tribe defender. In the 13th minute, Mani Walcott turned a shot on target on a free kick that had to be save by redshirt junior goallkeeper
Phil Breno. The final chance came off of the ensuing corner, when Brown had another shot blocked.
The Pride scored the match's first goal in the 35th minute. Meshack Eshun Addy sent a cross from the right side of the box that found the head of Daniel Massey. Massey directed the ball into the left side of the goal, lifting Hofstra to a 1-0 lead.
W&M had just two chances in the first half, and both shots were pushed wide.

Ryder Bell missed wide in the 41st.
Hofstra picked up where it left off in the first half and fired the first three shots of the second stanza. Joseph Hyland missed high in the 47th minute, before Danny Elliot had his shot stopped by Breno in the 48th minute. The final shot in the flurry came from Andreas Isoifides, but Breno also saved it.
The Tribe earned a corner kick and had a shot in the 55th minute. Off of the corner sent in by

Jeff Bombelles fired a shot that was deflected, leading to the Hofstra break.
Off of the rebound, Massey got behind the defense and the goalkeeper and fired into the empty net. His second marker of the day made it 2-0 Pride.
Following the second goal, the Tribe started to pick up its offense. The Green and Gold had back-to-back corner kicks, which led to junior
William Eskay turning a shot on-goal, but it was saved by Alex Ashton. Later in the 75th minute, freshman
Reeves Trott was able to turn one on frame, but it was the same result – an Ashton save.
W&M broke the shutout in the 84th minute. Sophomore
Marcel Berry flicked a ball into the box that
Antonio Bustamante was able to get to. The sophomore placed his shot around the goalie cutting the lead to 2-1.
Hofstra outshot the W&M 15-7, which included a 7-3 advantage in shots on-goal.
Antonio Bustamante led the Tribe with three shots, while four others fired one. Breno recorded four saves in goal for the Tribe.
The Green and Gold close out their two-game road swing with a trip to Elon on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Kickoff between the Tribe and the Phoenix is set for 7 p.m.
