ELON, N.C. – Elijah Agu scored twice as Elon topped the William & Mary men's soccer team 2-0 in North Carolina on Wednesday night. With the decision, the Tribe falls to 6-5-2, 2-3-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Phoenix improve 6-2-3, 2-0-2 in league action.
Elon opened the match on the offensive and had two corners and a shot on-goal in the match's first four minutes. Nick Adamczyk fired the first corner in, that allowed for Luke Matthews to turn a shot frame.
In the fifth minute, the Phoenix found the back of the net for the first time. Amir Berkane found Adamczyk, who sent a cross to the penalty spot. Elijah Agu fired his chance into the top right corner of the net, giving Elon a 1-0 lead.
W&M picked its offense up towards the end of the first period, but couldn't find the equalizer in the opening stanza. Freshman
Reeves Trott turned W&M's first chance towards goal, but it was blocked by a Elon defender in the 28th minute. Trott had his header saved by Matthew Jegier in the 35th minute, before sophomore

Tanner Shane had shots blocked moments later.
Elon added its second goal of the night in the 51st minute when Agu struck again. Berkane set Agu free at the top of the six-yard box. Agu was ripped his shot into the goal, making it 2-0.
The Tribe turned up its pressure following the second goal. In the 57th minute, sophomore
Antonio Bustamante fired a shot that hit the post. Later, freshman
Julian Ngoh missed wide, before Antonito Bustamante missed high. The final opportunity in the rush came from Trott, but it was saved by Jeiger.
Despite the scoreline, W&M outshot Elon by a 13-9 margin, including an 8-4 advantage in shots in the second half. However, the Pheonix held a 4-2 advantage in shots on-goal. Trott led the Tribe with five shots, while
Antonio Bustamante fired three.
The Green and Gold returns home for four of its final five matches, but will step out of conference play for the next two matches. W&M hosts Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 15. Kickoff between the Tribe and Wolverines is set for 7 p.m.
