The William & Mary men's swimming team picked up its win over a Power-5 opponent in 14 years on Saturday, blasting past West Virginia 223-123 at the Virginia Tech quad meet.  The Tribe moved its record to 3-2 on the year with the win, as well as falling to top-25 opponents Virginia Tech (277-69) and Duke (251.5-94.5).

For the second day in a row, freshman Chris Balbo (Short Hills, N.J.) broke one of the Tribe's all-time dual-meet records.  Saturday it was the 1,650 free, where he swam 16:04.58 to beat all opponents from West Virginia.  That lopped almost three full seconds from the record 16:07.24 swum by Chris Robinson '00 in December of 1996 against Old Dominion.  Also of note, freshman Ben Skopic (Marriottsville, Md.) led W&M with three wins on the day, beat West Virginia in the 200 breast at 2:07.81, and finishing ahead of both the Mountaineers and Duke in the 400 IM with a time of 4:02.96.  That latter performance moved Skopic up to 15th on W&M's all-time athletes list.

Another all-time top performance came in the meet-ending 400 free relay, where the Tribe swam 3:03.75 to defeat West Virginia and set the 16th-fastest race of all time.  The team was led-off by freshman Colin Wright (Williamsburg, Va.), and also included Kyle Neri (Wallingford, Conn.), Alex Montes de Oca (Orange, Va.), and Joe Eiden (White Plains, N.Y.).  Montes de Oca and Eiden also swam on the 200 medley relay that beat WVA in 1:32.80, joining with Wyatt Grubb (Mechanicsville, Va.) and Evan Baker (Chantilly, Va.) for the win.  Grubb also defeated West Virginia in the 100 back, timing 51.60 seconds, while Baker picked up a win of his own over the Mountaineers in the 100 fly, timing 50.10 seconds.

William & Mary is back in action next weekend, opening conference play on the road at Towson on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m.
