W&M Falls to Davidson, 1-0

Box Score The William & Mary field hockey team fell in a close, hard-fought match to Davidson on Sunday afternoon, 1-0.  The Tribe moves to 4-6 on the year, while the Wildcats improved to 5-4 overall.

It was a defensive showcase all day long, as the teams allowed just one goal in 23 combined attempts.  Senior Peyton Smith (Richmond, Va.) had six of those shots herself to lead all players, and classmate Meredith Savage (Virginia Beach, Va.) made three saves in goal.  The Tribe out-shot the Wildcats 14-9, and held an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners.

William & Mary hits the road this weekend, opening Colonial Athletic Association play at No. 13 Delaware and at Towson, Friday and Sunday, respectively.
