Tribe Falls at No. 4 Virginia, 4-2

Box Score The William & Mary field hockey team battled all night long on a rainy evening in Charlottesville, but came up just short against No. 4 Virginia, 4-2.  The Tribe evened its record at 4-4 on the year, while the Cavaliers remained undefeated at 8-0.

Box Score

The Cavaliers came out firing with a 3-0 lead, but the Tribe got on the board shortly before halftime.  Senior Pippin Saunders (Mittagong, NSW) got the ball and ripped it past the defense just 50 seconds before the horn.  Then, in the second half, W&M struck again in the 51st minute.  Off a penalty corner, senior Peyton Smith (Richmond, Va.) sent a shot on trajectory just wide, and found Saunders who tipped it in for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.  For the game, the Tribe held a 6-0 advantage in penalty corners, and a 12-11 edge in shots.  Senior Meredith Savage (Virginia Beach, Va.) made four saves in goal.

William & Mary is back in action this weekend, hosting Richmond and Davidson at home.  The Tribe will host the Spiders on Friday at 6 p.m., before welcoming the Wildcats Sunday at 1 p.m.
