Box Score FARMVILLE, Va. – Sophomore William Eskay scored the golden goal in the 104th minute, as the Tribe erased a one-goal second half deficit to beat Longwood 3-2 on Saturday night in Farmville, Virginia. Aside from the sophomore's tally, freshmen Antonio Bustamante (one goal, one assist) and Ryder Bell tallied for the Tribe. With the decision, the Tribe improved to 2-2-2, while Longwood fell to 3-2 overall.
"We are thrilled to come away with a victory tonight," head coach Chris Norris said. "It was an open affair and could've gone either way. Give credit to Longwood. They gave us all we could handle."
After an early Tribe shot, Longwood had the match's first shot on goal in the ninth minute. Off of a corner kick by Finnlay Wyatt, Marten Pajunurm was able to put a shot on target, but redshirt junior goalkeeper Mac Phillips was there for the stop.
Just a moment later, the Green and Gold had its first chance. In the 11th minute, senior Ryan Flesch placed his chance on frame, but Longwood goalie Carl Carpenter came up with stop.
The Green and Gold took an early lead with a marker in the 20th minute. Bustamante dribbled to the top of the box where he uncorked a shot into the lower right corner of the goal. His second goal of the season gave the Tribe a 1-0 lead.
The Lancers wasted little time and found the equalizer in the 23rd minute. Wyatt dished a pass to Zach Corcoran, who finished into the lower right side of the goal.
Longwood took its first lead with a goal in the 56th minute with the first goal of the second period. Dan Campos sent a through ball to Mo Jalloh. Jalloh was able to beat the keeper, and give the Lancers a 2-1 advantage.
The Tribe knotted the score at 2-2 in the 75th minute on Bell's third goal of the season. After a foul, Bustamante sent a free kick to the left edge of the box that found Bell. Bell was able to get his head on the ball and direct into the back of the net.
W&M had a look to retake the lead in the 86th minute. William Eskay tried to put a shot on target, but it was blocked by a Lancer defender. The Tribe was awarded a corner kick, but couldn't get anything off of it.
Both teams had chances in the first overtime period. Longwood had three chances to the Tribe's two. In the first two minutes of the period Zach Crandall and Wyatt failed to put their shots on target, before Campos pushed his shot wide. Junior Reilly Maw had a chance blocked, before Bustamante pushed a shot wide in the final minute of the period.
After a pair of shots in the early stages of the second overtime, the Green and Gold found the game-winner in the 104th minute. William Eskay put a shot on target that was saved by Carpenter, but the rebound bounced right back to him. This time the Urbana, Maryland native put the ball into the back of the net for the victory.
W&M held a 26-15 advantage in shots during the victory, which included an 8-4 advantage in shots on-goal. William Eskay led the Tribe with seven shots, while Flesch fired five shots for the Green and Gold.
Phillips recorded his second win of the season in goal for the Green and Gold. He made two stops on the evening, while facing 15 Lancers' shot.
The Green and Gold continues its season-long three-match road trip as they travel to Navy on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The trip concludes on Saturday, Sept. 26 when the Tribe heads to College of Charleston. Both matches are set for 7 p.m. kickoffs.
