Field Hockey Edged at #4 Duke

Box Score The William & Mary field hockey team fought hard to the end, but fell on the road at No. 4 Duke, 6-2 on Sunday afternoon.  The Tribe evened its record at 3-3 overall, while the Blue Devils improved to 4-2 on the year.

Box Score

The Tribe faced a 9-3 deficit in shots in the first half, but went into the break down just 2-1 thanks to a strong team effort.  In the 19th minute, senior Pippin Saunders (Mittagong, NSW) drove through the circle and ripped a backhand shot into the boards for her team-leading sixth goal of the year.  Three minutes later, sophomore Erin Menges (Richmond, Va.) helped stuff a penalty corner, taking the ball off the line for her first defensive save.  Also playing strongly throughout the half was senior goalkeeper Meredith Savage (Virginia Beach, Va.), making three saves of her own.  In the second half, the Blue Devils fired in four more goals, before junior Samantha Slattery (Millersville, Md.) converted a penalty stroke in the 68th minute for her first career goal.

William & Mary returns home next weekend, hosting New Hampshire at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18.
