TIGHT ENDS / FULLBACKS
Despite the loss of two senior starters to graduation, including an all-conference selection, second-year tight ends/fullbacks coach Mario Acitelli's position group is expected to be one of the team's strengths once again. Sophomore Andrew Caskin enters preseason camp atop the depth chart at tight end after earning four starts as a true freshman last fall. The Rockville, Md., native provides the Tribe with another vertical threat in the passing game, which was on display last fall when he averaged 15.4 yards per catch. Additionally, Caskin (6-5, 240) is a tenacious player who consistently displays tremendous effort, as he excels in blocking and understands fullback responsibilities.
After appearing in nine contests with four starts last season, junior Eric Hensley (6-4, 255) enters preseason camp as the backup tight end. The Herndon, Va., native is an excellent blocker who has good technique and works tremendously hard. In addition to being very good in the run game, he has significantly improved as a viable option in the passing attack.
Senior Evan McGill (6-5, 250) adds experienced depth at the position and has appeared in 16 games during the past two seasons. A big, athletic tight end with solid hands, the Richmond, Va., native possesses the potential to make an impact in the passing game and on special teams.
While the loss of two-time all-conference fullback Darnell Laws to graduation poses a challenge, W&M is fortunate to have an experienced senior ready to step into the starting role this season. A tough, physical player, Andrew Weidinger (6-0, 245) is a hard-working leader who has appeared in 31 games with nine starts during his career. Evidence of his commitment to excellence can be found in the fact that he was honored with the team's John A. Stewart Winter Warrior Award for his work on the field and in the off-season training program.
Redshirt freshman Kolby Taylor enters preseason camp as the backup fullback after transitioning from linebacker during the spring. Taylor (6-2, 230) is a strong, physical player who likes to hit and has demonstrated the ability to make an impact as he learns the new position. A former all-state linebacker at St. Mary's Ryken High School, the Leonardtown, Md., native was invited to play in the 2013 Maryland Crab Bowl following his senior season of high school.
Adding depth at fullback will be redshirt freshman Max Gillett (6-2, 246), who transitioned from tight end during the spring. The Norman, Okla., native plays with a physical style and has good ball skills. Additionally, he is solid with alignments and consistently works hard at improving his technique.
