PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 3, 2015) – The William and Mary lacrosse team opened its conference slate with a 10-5 victory at Drexel on Friday evening.
Although W&M (5-6, 1-0) trailed 2-1 midway through the opening half, it closed the initial stanza with a 4-1 run and allowed just two goals in the final 30 minutes en route to securing the victory.
The Tribe utilized a balanced attack offensively as nine players combined to score the team's 10 goals. Junior Michelle Goss led the way with two scores, while freshman Danielle Palmucci added two points (1g, 1a).
Junior Zoe Boger totaled a team-high six draw controls, which helped the College own an 11-6 advantage in the category.
Defensively, junior goalie Meredith Crizer allowed just five goals and totaled seven saves with six ground balls.
While Drexel (3-8, 0-1) seized control of the contest early and led 2-1 after 18 minutes of action, W&M pulled ahead with a pivotal 4-0 run that covered more than 10 minutes. Sophomore Abby Junior began the run with a goal at 11:42, while freshman Abby Corkum (9:54), Boger (7:01) and junior Kelly Martins (1:24) also found the back of the cage during the stretch.

Although a goal by Drexel's Joelle Hartke with 2:46 left briefly narrowed the margin to four, Goss added her second goal of the evening shortly thereafter to help W&M earn the lopsided triumph.
In addition to owning a significant advantage on draw controls, W&M outshot DU, 27-23, and held a 22-19 edge in ground balls.
Emily Duffey led Drexel with four points (3g, 1a), while Hartke added two goals.
