NEWARK, Del. (April 26, 2015) – The William and Mary baseball team closed out its series at Delaware with a 16-8 setback on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Hens (18-15, 7-8) jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first inning and added another seven-run frame in the seventh en route to securing the series sweep.

Second baseman Cullen Large led W&M (19-22, 9-9) at the plate and went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Right fielder Ryan Hall posted a 3-for-5 effort with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, while designated hitter Devin White went 3-for-5 with a run scored.

RHP Aaron Fernandez (3-3) suffered the loss, while RHP Chad Martin (2-3) earned the victory.

Although the Tribe took an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single by first baseman Charley Gould in the top of the first inning, UD answered with seven runs in the bottom half of the frame.

W&M narrowed the margin to 7-4 with three runs, all of which came with two outs, in the top of the third inning. After third baseman Willie Shaw was hit by a pitch, center fielder Josh Smith drew a walk. Hall followed with a double that drove in Shaw, while left fielder Matthew Tilley plated two more runs with a single to left center.

After the Blue Hens responded with a runs in the third and fourth innings to increase their lead to 9-4, the College got two runs back in the fifth with a two-run single by Large that plated Hall and Smith.

While W&M added runs in the eighth and ninth innings, the Blue Hens' seven-run frame in the seventh inning put the game out of reach.

The Tribe will return to action when it hosts the College of Charleston next weekend.
