Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The William & Mary men's soccer team dropped a Colonial Athletic Association road match to Northeastern 2-1 on Saturday night in Boston, Massachusetts. Freshman Marcel Berry scored the lone goal for the Green and Gold. With the result, the Tribe falls to 4-5-2, 1-3-0 in CAA play, while the Huskies improve to 1-7-2, 1-3-0 in league action.
Northeastern fired the game's first three shots, but none of them were on frame. Alex Ainscough fired high in the third minute, Frantzdy Pierrot fired wide right in the fifth, and Harry Swarts had his chance blocked in the 19th minute.
W&M's first two opportunities were on target and came just two minutes apart. Sophomore William Eskay turned a shot on target that was stopped by Jonathan Thuresson. Moments later, senior Jackson Eskay put his shot on frame, but the result was the same.
The Tribe just missed a chance to take the lead in the 54th minute. Jackson Eskay sent a feed to junior Reilly Maw, who charged down the left side into the box. Maw's shot was stopped by a diving Thuresson to preserve the 0-0 tie.
W&M continued its second half attack with another good chance in the 65th minute. Senior Ryan Flesch fired a shot that again had to be stopped by Thuresson.
Northeastern started picking up its pressure in the 82nd minute. Swarts found some space and pushed a shot on frame that redshirt freshman Sam Onyeador saved.
Four minutes later the Huskies took a 1-0 lead with just over four minutes to play in regulation. Kevin Carvalho found Ackim Mpofu at the top of the box. Mpofu took one touch and fired a shot over the head of the keeper.
In the 88th minute, the Huskies doubled their lead. Swartz found Pierrot just inside the left side of the 18. Pierrot chipped his shot over the keeper, giving Northeastern a 2-0 advantage.
With time running out, the Tribe scored and cut the deficit to a single goal in the 90th minute. Redshirt sophomore Riley Spain found William Eskay, who sent a feed to Berry. Berry, who was in the middle of the 18, fired his shot into the middle of the net. The marker was Berry's first career tally.
Despite the result, W&M held a 13-11 advantage in shots, which included a 7-3 mark in shots on-goal. William Eskay led the team with four shots, while Jackson Eskay fired three. Making just his second start of his career, Onyeador recorded one save in goal for the College.
The Green and Gold returns to action and conclude a two-game road swing when they travel to James Madison on Wednesday, Oct. 14. W&M will then return home for a pair of matches starting on Saturday, Oct. 17 against UNCW. Kickoff for both matches is set for 7 p.m.
