Tribe Baseball Wins Five NCAA Statistical Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The final 2014 baseball statistics were released on Friday morning, and the William and Mary Tribe baseball program found itself among the statistical champions. It was the first time since 2004 that the Green and Gold were statistical champions, that year the Tribe led the country in triples and triples per game in 2004.

As a team, the Tribe led the country in doubles (149) and doubles per game (2.66). The Green and Gold also ranked in the top 10 nationally in batting average (seventh), hits (ninth), home runs (seventh), home runs per game (fifth), on-base percentage (fifth), runs (fourth), scoring (third), and slugging percentage (third).

Individually, junior Nick Thompson was the statistical champion in runs (69) and run per game (1.23). Classmate Michael Katz also was a statistical champion finishing first in runs batted in per game (1.34), while ranking second in RBIs (75).

William and Mary won its first ever Colonial Athletic Association regular season title, while piling up 34 victories. The Tribe had 12 players honored with CAA awards including head coach Brian Murphy being named CAA Coach of the Year, and Katz was the league's player of the year.
