Junior Michael Katz Garners Fifth All-American Citation

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William and Mary baseball junior Michael Katz garnered his fifth All-American honor on Wednesday afternoon. Katz was named a First-Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).  

The Falls Church, Virginia native finished the 2014 season with a .363 batting average, 87 hits, 24 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs, scored 64 runs, and had a school record 75 RBIs. He posted a .646 slugging percentage, and a .445 on-base percentage. He ranks sixth in the top 10 in the country in doubles, home runs, runs scored, slugging percentage, RBIs, and total bases.

In addition to today's award, he has been named Colonial Athletic Association and ECAC Player of the Year and to the league's first team. He was also named a Louisville Slugger and NWCBA First-Team All-American, while he was a Second-Team Baseball America All-American.  Katz was named a Perfect Game Third-Team All-American on Tuesday. He was a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award.

For his career, Katz appeared in 166 games, all starts for the Tribe. He has a .346 career batting average with 230 hits, 57 doubles, two triples, 29 home runs, 180 RBIs. He ranks in the top 10 all-time in runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, and total bases.

The New York Mets selected Katz with the 265th pick in the ninth round of the MLB Draft. He was the 31st W&M player drafted, and the eighth highest selection in school history. Katz has since signed with the New York Mets, and is playing for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the New York-Penn League.
