Tribe Football Wraps Up Spring with Green and Gold Game

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 12, 2014) – The William and Mary football team concluded its spring practice season with the annual Green and Gold Game before a crowd of approximately 2,000 fans at Zable Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Players on both sides of the ball provided highlights, as the offense moved the ball well at times and scored a pair of touchdowns, while the defense created five turnovers and posted a score.

Linebacker Airek Green provided the afternoon's defensive highlight on the first play from scrimmage when he scooped up a fumble caused by cornerback DeAndre Houston-Carson and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.

Linebacker Ian Haislip, defensive end Braxton Hicks and safety Keanu Reuben all recorded interceptions, while safety Ivan Tagoe recovered a fumble. Hicks also added a sack, while Reuben's stat line include a TFL. Defensive end Jasper Coleman came up big on special teams with a blocked field goal.

Offensively, quarterback Frank Brown IV completed 7-of-9 passes for 82 yards with a touchdown, while wideout Flynn Heald totaled three receptions for 64 yards with a 21-yard touchdown catch. Running back Jonathan Dunn also found the end zone on a 5-yard scamper.

At the completion of the game, the team announced captains for the 2014 season (as derived from a team vote) with a quartet of players garnering the honor – senior tight end Bo Revell, senior safety Ivan Tagoe, senior defensive end Stephen Sinnott and junior linebacker Luke Rhodes.

Another major team award was announced on Saturday, as Rhodes were selected as the recipients of the John A. Stewart Winter Warrior Award, which is given annually to the player, or players, who best exemplify the qualities of dedication, effort and achievement that defined Stewart's career at W&M. Awardees are judged on their improvements both on the field and in the off-season training program.
