BROCKPORT, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2014) – The William and Mary men's gymnastics team won a tri-meet hosted by Brockport on Sunday afternoon, as the Tribe (412.45) defeated the University of Illinois at Chicago (401.35) and the host Golden Eagles (220.45).
In addition to setting a team season high on vault, W&M swept all six individual event titles. Senior Landon Funiciello claimed three events (rings, vault, parallel bars), while sophomore Neal Courter won two (floor, high bar) and junior Jason Wang earned one (pommel horse).
The College opened the meet on pommel horse and posted a team total of 68.3. Wang recorded the winning score of 14.8, while junior Peter Ten Eyck placed second by equaling a career-high 14.4.
The Tribe then moved to rings and was led by Funiciello's winning mark of 15.7. Junior J.J. Jindra placed second with a 13.9 to help the squad record a 67.65.
Courter earned the floor title with a 15.0, while Funiciello placed second with a 14.8. As a team, the College earned a 70.55 in the event.
W&M nearly matched its season high on parallel bars with a team score of 70.2. Funiciello won the event with a career-high 15.0, while senior Sam Patterson finished second by equaling a career high (14.4).
Courter won his second event of the afternoon by equaling a season-high on high bar (14.1). The College registered a team total of 65.3 in the event.
The Tribe closed out the meet on vault and posted a season-high 70.45. Funiciello led the way with his third event title of the afternoon by recording a season-best 14.6, while junior Michael Deitz and Jindra posted a 14.2 and a 14.0, respectively.
Sophomore Keaton Ackerman (77.05) and freshman Aria Sabbagh (75.75) both competed as all-arounders for the Tribe and placed third and fourth, respectively.
The Tribe will return to action again when it competes at Springfield on Sunday at 1 p.m.
