WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Feb. 13, 2014)—After posting a pair of outstanding performances last weekend, William and Mary senior
Landon Funiciello has been selected as the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Division Gymnast of the Week. The honor marks the third time this season that Funiciello has garnered the national accolade.
Funiciello began the weekend by winning three events in the Tribe's victory at a tri-meet hosted by Brockport on Saturday, as he claimed titles on rings (15.7), vault (14.6) and parallel bars (15.0). His score on parallel bars broke his own school record.
The Baldwinsville, N.Y., native was even more impressive in W&M's dual meet triumph at Springfield the following day when he broke his own school record on parallel bars (15.15) and nearly matched his own school standard on rings (15.9). By winning both events, he helped the College break the program's record on parallel bars (71.05) and nearly match the school record for a team total with a 420.45.
Funiciello, a two-time NCAA All-American on rings, currently ranks third nationally in the event with a three-score average of 15.883. Additionally, he ranks fifth in the country on parallel bars with a three-score average of 15.017.
The No. 12 Tribe will return to action when it competes at Navy on Sunday at 3 p.m.
