The William and Mary field hockey team brought its season to a close Friday night in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals, falling to Delaware by a count of 4-1. The Tribe finished the year at 7-12 overall, while the Blue Hens advanced to the conference title game at 12-8.
Knowing how dangerous the Tribe is when you let them hang around, the Blue Hens came out firing with four goals early to take the advantage. Despite that, W&M kept grinding away and finally came away with a score in the 55th minute, thanks to the efforts of all-conference junior
Pippin Saunders (Mittagong, NSW). It was the 10th goal of the year for Saunders, a new career high, and she wrapped up her third-consecutive season of leading the Tribe in scoring.
For the game, W&M was out-shot 15-5, and faced an 8-2 disadvantage in penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper
Meredith Savage (Virginia Beach, Va.) made six saves on the night.
